David Joseph Tomassoni (born December 5, 1952) is a Minnesota politician and a member of the Minnesota Senate representing District 5, which includes portions of St. Louis County in the northeastern part of the state. A Democrat, he was first elected to the Senate in 2000 and re-elected in 2002, 2006 and 2010. Prior to that, he represented District 5B in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 1993 to 2001.[1]
Tomassoni is currently a member of the Senate's Capital Investment, Higher Education, and Jobs and Economic Growth committees.[2] He was a majority whip for the Senate from 2001 to 2007, and also served as an assistant majority leader in the House from 1997 to 2001.[1]
Tomassoni graduated from Chisholm High School in Chisholm and went on to receive a B.S.B.A. from the University of Denver. He played professional hockey in Italy for 16 years and was a member of the Italian Olympic hockey team in 1980. He and his wife, Charlotte, have three children.[1]
